Page history last edited by PBworks 2 yrs ago
Name: Holly Dausen
Subject: 11th Grade U.S. History from 1877
Period: Tues, 6/12 2nd Period

Approximate Time: 50 minutes

Objective:
The students will demonstrate testing procedures
USH 5.d
The students will demonstrate prior knowledge by taking a pretest.

Materials: Poster of how to head your paper, class set of pretest, Transparency of Testing Procedures
Do Now: Copy and answer ONE of the following questions:
    1. What do you hope to learn in summer school?
    2. Why do you think you are in summer school?

Set (10 min): Earlier you learned about classroom rules and procedures. Can anyone raise their hand and tell me all four classroom rules? Can anyone tell me all three consequences? Can anyone tell me the rewards for good behavior? Can anyone raise their hand and tell me something else we learned earlier? Explain think, class, hand questions. Ask students, if you don’t say what kind of question it is, what should they do? This is a “think” question. Have you ever been in a class where the teacher talked about a lot of things you already knew? Did you feel bored? Have you ever been in a class where the teacher thought you knew more than you did? Did you feel like things were over your head sometimes? Sometimes teachers think you know more than you already do. Sometimes teachers think you know less. This is a “hand” question. How could a teacher find out exactly what you already know? (listen to student’s answers) One way teacher’s find out what you already know is by giving a pre-test, or a test before they start teaching you the material. It’s important that you do the best you can on this test, so that we can help you learn over the next few weeks.

Procedures:
1. Do Now (3 min)
  1. Demonstrate to students how to head their paper. Explain that will use this for every assignment. Instruct students to check and make sure their paper is headed correctly (1 min).
  2. Set (10 min)
  3. Explain quiz/test procedures:
    1. Write the answers only
    2. No talking during the quiz/test
    3. Keep your eyes on your own paper
d.   When you finish, turn your paper over and wait quietly. You may sit quietly, or you may write or draw on the back of your test. You MAY NOT put your head down.
Ask students what they should do if they need your help during the test (raise hand) (5 min)
5. Pass out tests and discuss instructions/different parts with students. You will have 30 minutes to complete this test. (30 min)
6. Closure (1 min)

Closure:
Ask if anyone can list the 4 testing procedures. Ask students what their assignment is for tomorrow. Explain that we will take a standardized test after the break.

Assessment/Evaluation:
Informal:
The teacher will observe students’ prior knowledge (C) by watching their progress on the pre-test (M).

The teacher will observe students’ demonstration of testing procedures (C) by watching their behavior as they take the quiz and test (M).
