Approximate time: 50 minutes

 

 

Objectives: TSW

1. Review concepts covered in unit on Mendelian genetics.

 

 

Materials:

Whiteboard, markers, Mendelian Review WS

 

 

Warm-up:

Look through your notes and write down questions or topics that remain unclear for you on a piece of paper.

 

 

Set: (review, objectives, involve, relevance)

Say, “Yesterday, we completed our unit on Mendelian genetics. What is genetics? How is Mendelian genetics different from Molecular genetics? Today, we will spend working on an assignment as a form of review for the major review of all genetics and the post-test tomorrow. We will start by reviewing the homework from last night on pedigrees, then talk about the questions you have on these pieces of paper, followed by independent review work. Questions?”

 

 

Procedures:

1.Go over last night's genetics homework on pedigrees.

2.Go over student questions written in the warm-up.

3.Have students complete worksheet.

4.Time permitting, go over worksheet.

 

 

Closure: (restate, review, involve, preview)

Say, “Today, we closed our discussion of Mendelian genetics. What are the two division of genetics? I will correct your worksheets tonight so that we can go over them tomorrow. Afterwards we will have the post-test. Questions?”

 

 

Assessment:

    Informal: TTW observe students during independent work and during homework review.

    Formal: TTW grade the worksheet for accuracy and mastery of the subject. The grade will be recorded in the grade book.
